Media Release 14th September 1998
PARTY INTERNET POLICIES QUERIED
Australia's leading online civil liberties organisation, Electronic
Frontiers Australia, has asked all major Australian political parties for
a statement of their position on critical Internet issues. The questions
cover censorship, privacy, and cryptography.
"Policies on Internet civil liberties issues appear to be sketchy, if
they exist at all", commented EFA board member Danny Yee. "This is
simply not acceptable to the large number of Australian Internet users
who are concerned about their privacy and their freedom to access and
publish information. They want to know how those who are seeking their
votes on October 3rd stand on these issues."
The full text of EFA's letter to the parties can be found at

EFA will continue to monitor the performance and policies of the parties
after the election.
