Freedom of Information Application

I hereby request, under the Freedom of Information Act, copies of all documentary evidence relating to the Government's announcement that Unrestricted Publications have become too "raunchy" for Queenslanders to read, as outlined in the Minister's Press Release of 16th September 1999.

This request includes but is not limited to:

(a) any comparative analysis over time of pictorial or textual content of Unrestricted publications that has been carried out by the Queensland Government in reaching the above conclusion;

(b) any evidence that the OFLC has breached its previous guidelines in classifying publications;

(c) copies of the results of any surveys or public opinion polls, including questions asked, conducted by the government or other parties that have been used to support this decision;

(d) copies of any correspondence or reports documenting the number of complaints received by the government from the general public regarding Unrestricted publications;

(e) any other reports or documentation relating to research conducted by the Government or other parties that has been used to support this decision;

(f) copies of any correspondence relating to the proposed/new Guidelines from the Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) to the Minister or the Minister's office or departmental staff, copies of correspondence from the Minister or the Minister's office or departmental staff to the OFLC, notes of any telephone conversations between respective officers, copies of any email or voicemail messages between respective officers, relating to this application;

(g) copies of any correspondence relating to the proposed/new Guidelines from the Commonwealth Attorney-General to the Minister or the Minister's office or departmental staff, copies of correspondence from the Minister or the Minister's office or departmental staff to the Commonwealth Attorney-General, notes of any telephone conversations between respective officers, copies of any email or voicemail messages between respective officers, relating to this application;

(h) copies of any memo, post-it message or accompanying "with compliments" note relating to items (a) to (g) above;

(i) copy of the report/analysis of proposed new Guidelines by Professor Peter Sheehan, Vice Chancellor of the Australian Catholic University, and Dr Judith Bowey, a language expert from the University of Queensland, if this was provided to the Minister or her deparmental staff by the OFLC;

(j) copies of any correspondence, reports or other documentation provided to meetings of Commonwealth, State and Territory Censorship Ministers concerning any need for the new Guidelines for the Classification of Publications;

(k) copies of minutes, or relevant extracts thereof, of meetings of Commonwealth, State and Territory Censorship Ministers concerning the new Guidelines for the Classification of Publications.
