The NSW situation was discussed at the EFA Board Meeting and the following info is provided as a result of that meeting.
EFA does support the march.
As there does not seem to be anyone co-ordinating the march, we would like to hear from people interested in forming a steering committee in Sydney to co-ordinate the march, publicity, speakers, petition, whatever may be appropriate. EFA Board does not have a State Representative in Sydney at present.
If someone is already co-ordinating/organising behind the scenes, we would be grateful if they would let us know.
As the newsfeeds are not always reliable, please ensure any interest in the above is emailed to:
As most of you would be aware, EFA is an organisation consisting entirely of volunteers. EFA does not have staff and is quite different in that regard to the EFF in the USA for example. We are always seeking volunteers to assist the Board with various matters.
The Board is attempting to obtain a copy of the NSW draft legislation. So far our enquiries have been no more successful than those of others here. We will keep trying and we encourage everyone else to keep contacting the NSW Attorney-General's office as well (Elizabeth Jurman -- 228-8188 or 018-604-766). Perhaps if the A-G's office receives enough phone calls they will eventually provide the document in order to stop their phones ringing.
We also suggest that people outside NSW phone the Attorney-General's office in their own State. This proposed legislation was submitted to the A-Gs' meeting in Darwin, so one would assume all A-Gs have a copy. My enquiry to the Qld A-G's office indicates that they do, however the person who could apparently help me is away at present.
EFA's home page at:
presently provides links to material which we expect would be banned by the NSW legislation (based on the press release). More information re the NSW proposals will be added as it comes to hand. If you have suggested additions please email to EFA's Webmaster, jon@valhalla.newcastle.edu.au
