INTERNET users will march on Parliament House in Sydney next Monday in protest against the NSW Government's attempt to introduce Net censorship.
"We hope to make the NSW Government aware that what it is planning has upset a lot of people." a march organiser, Mr Danny Yee, said yesterday.
The Government is planning legislation target ing people who publish offensive material on the Internet.
Offenders would face fines as high as $25,000, or even jail sentences.
The aim of the legislation, according to the NSW Attorney-General, Mr Shaw, is to "protect children and others from intentionally or accidentally accessing abhorrent and objectionable material".
Mr Yee said the proposed legislation would make being an Internet access provider virtually impossible.
"ISPs would be legally liable for everything specified under this legislation," he said.
The march has been organised by the Electronic Frontier Association, a non profit, national organisation incorporated in South Australia.
Mr Yee believes about 500 people will attend the march, which has police and council approval.
"We've issued a global message to all IRC users, as well as word of mouth as in e-mail," he said.
There are an estimated 300,000 Internet users in NSW.
